The country and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts have changed dramatically since Democrats and Republicans had clearly distinct objectives and the ways to achieve them. The far left and the far right represent almost incredible extremes. It has become less and less possible to find a conservative Democrat and a liberal Republican. Many thinking Americans find it easy to identify with what they find attractive about both Republican and Democratic values and programs. As a result the numbers of voters who register as independent is increasing steadily. As an Independent I can relate to the best of each major party, and focus on issues rather than a partisan ideology.
